Once upon a time, there was a girl named Kinsley who loved dogs. When ever she saw a dog, Kinsley got a happy feeling inside and just had to smile.

Kinsley wanted a dog, but her parents said she was not responsible enough yet to take care of a pet. Kinsley knew that she had to become more responsible so that one day she could have a pet of her own.

Kinsley started reading books about dogs to learn more about taking care of them. She also began walking her neighbor’s dogs when they went out of town or were gone for long periods of time. To show her parents she was responsible, Kinsley began helping out around the house more, doing chores even when she wasn’t asked.

One day Kinsley’s brother Jack found a stray dog. He asked Kinsley if she knew anyone who had lost a dog.

Kinsley did not know who the dog belonged to. She thought they should ask their mother what to do.

Kinsley’s mother said the dog could stay with their family until they found it’s owner. Kinsley and her parents asked their neighbors and read the lost pet section of the newspaper to find the dog’s owner, but they couldn’t find out who the dog belonged to.

Kinsley was responsible and took good care of the dog. Her parents said she was “persistent”, which meant she continued to work towards her goal, of caring for the lost dog and maybe someday caring for a dog of her own. Her parents were proud of Kinsley for her hardworking and responsible behavior. Kinsley was proud of herself too.

As she was walking home from school one afternoon, Kinsley saw a sign for a lost dog that looked just like the dog Jack had found. Kinsley knew she should tell her mother, but she did not want to give up the dog that she had grown to love. What should she do?

Kinsley remembered the time that her little cousin Laura lost her cat. Laura who was usually always laughing, had cried for days. Kinsley wondered if the lost dog’s owners were as sad as Laura had been when their pet disappeared. She also thought about how disappointed her mother would be if she found out Kinsley knew who the dog might belong to and didn’t do anything about it.

Even though Kinsley really loved the dog, she gave her mother the phone number and information from the poster she saw. Kinsley was happy when her mother scooped her up and gave her a big hug and said she was proud of Kinsley for being honest. Kinsley’s father said Kinsley had a sense of “moral justice”-she had acted in a “fair or just” way. Both Kinsley’s parents were proud of Kinsley for doing the right thing. Kinsley was proud of doing what was right too.

As it turned out, the dog did belong to the family who had put up the poster. They thanked Kinsley for taking such good care of their dog and for helping them reunite with their pet. To say thank you, they gave Kinsley a reward, $100 dollars! Kinsley said thank you and refused to take the money, but the family insisted Kinsley take the reward.

Kinsley parents stopped at the pet store on their way home that evening. They said Kinsley had been persistent in her quest for a pet dog and had shown a sense of moral justice when she gave back the lost dog. They were so proud of how responsible she had become that they decided to let her………….

…use her $100 reward money to buy a dog of her own!!!!!!
