2.  The Declaration of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, or Stockholm Declaration, was adopted June 16, 1972 by the United Nations at the 21st plenary meeting as the first document in international environmental law to recognize the right to a healthy environment.  “The protection and improvement of the human environment is a major issue which affects the well-being of peoples and economic development throughout the world; it is the urgent desire of the peoples of the whole world and the duty of all Governments.” This rule, the second of many, clearly states that it is a human duty to keep the environment clean and well.  The act basically regards the environment in every aspect, from the preservation to smartly using resources. It also puts restrictions on certain things as well.

3.  This declaration was one of the first in the Guide to Environmental Law and really initiated the whole process on which other acts and declarations were created.  Countless principles and rules were created during this conference in 1972 which still stand today and, as stated earlier, cover almost every threat a person or thing can pose to the environment.  The conference was help in Stockholm, hence the name, and was held due to the United Nations bringing it to attention
