2 1. Check university criteria APPLY 1 - Your application is likely to go to more than one course provider. Check requirements of each university/school. Go beyond information on the UCAS Teacher Training/ School Direct websites.

3 2. Line limitation 47 lines including blank lines (4000 characters) Concise and clear – Do not spend too much time setting the scene. Compile in a Word document first.

4 Your statement – what you need to get across Your motivations for wishing to teach:  Project your enthusiasm.  Your key influences.  Any experience –proving your effectiveness with children/young peoples learning.

5 Skills of a future teacher  Skills required by your choice of university/ school.  How have you applied these skills?  Additional skills can you bring?

6 Relevance of previous education  How does your degree subject relate to the subject you intend to teach?  Primary teaching - understanding of the broader curriculum.  Particular elements that relate to the national curriculum.

7 Potential impact in schools  Making subjects interesting  Application of ICT skills or new learning methods  Advanced level studies - aspects you could link to curriculum learning?

8 School and relevant experience  Admission tutors - interested in your time in schools.  What were you involved with?  What did you learn?  Understanding of the teaching role and other associated factors?

9 INSIGHT – experience in schools? Reflect on and analyse your work experience in schools. 1.Outline 3 activities you were involved with. 2.What learning took place 3.What approaches were used to deliver this. Please feedback in five minutes

10 Relevant interests  Most teachers contribute to curriculum enrichment through their own interests. e.g. an interesting sport; henna design; creative writing; film/documentaries; British Sign Language.  What can you bring? How could you use this interest/skill to enhance curriculum delivery?

11 Knowledge of the education sector  Keeping up to date with developments and trends  What websites do you visit regularly or which newspaper features do you read? What has captured your interest recently?

12 Your career path How do you see your teaching career developing? Curriculum lead opportunities Pastoral or extra curricula roles Future training and qualifications Membership of Senior Leadership Team?
