4.  The Electoral College is the method of choosing the President. Their numbers in each state are determined by simply adding the Senators and members of the House. The framers chose this method due to the educational and distance barriers of the early United States. Is this an effective method today?  Presidential primaries are the state by state elections in which the party chooses their presidential nominee.  Nominating Conventions – the party organizes their platform, the party delivers their message to the American people, the Presidential and VP candidates are formally introduced.  Swing States – the states that the Presidential candidates compete over.
