2 1. I was born on September 11,1890 2. I was born in Washington D.C 3. I was the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematices 5. I graduated valedictorian from Washington, D.C.’s M St. High School in 1907 and earned a teacher’s certificate from Miner Normal School upon her graduation in 1909. 4. My father ran a dental Practice for 30 years while working on civil rights issues 6. After I graduated in 1914, she taught in Washington, D.C. public schools. 7.In 1917 I married Harold A. Haynes, who was also a teacher in Washington. 8. In 1930, I received a masters degree in education from the University of Chicago, where she also did further graduate study in mathematics. 9. I taught in the public schools of Washington, DC for forty-seven years and was the first woman to chair the DC School Board. Euphemia Lofton Haynes
