Are You Totally Protected?

Over the last 20 years there has been a trend in the health insurance industry  Premiums have been increasing  Deductibles have been increasing  Co-insurance has been increasing  Benefits have been decreasing  Health insurance companies have been shifting a higher percentage of the financial risk to the policyholder  Basically, they have been charging you more and giving you less

Examples  In 1990 the average deductible for an individual major medical policy was $500. –In 2010 the average deductible was $5,000.  In 1990 the average co-insurance for an individual major medical policy was $200 (20% of the next $1,000). –In 2010 the average co-insurance was $2,000 (20% of the next $10,000).  In 1990 the typical policy had 2 paragraphs of excluded items. –In 2010 the typical policy had over 2 pages of excluded items.

Bottom Line  Even the best major medical policy will still leave large out-of-pocket medical expenses that you are responsible for.  This does not include indirect non-medical expenses associated with a critical illness or an accidental injury.

What is Your Greatest Risk?  68% of all hospital confinements are related to the 3 most common critical illnesses: –Heart attack –Stroke –Cancer  14% of all hospital confinements are related to accidental injuries.

*82% Heart Stroke Cancer Accidents All other procedures and surgeries STATISTICS FOR HOSPITAL CONFINEMENTS *AMERICAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION Hospital Confinements

Important Statistics About Heart Attacks & Strokes  Every 16 seconds someone in the United States has a coronary event.  That’s 5,600 people per day!  There are 800,000 strokes each year in the U.S.  There are 1.2 million heart attacks each year.  In the last 10 years the survival rate for heart attacks and strokes has gone up over 20%.

Important Statistics about Cancer  Every 24 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with cancer.  That’s 3,400 people per day!  1 in 2 males and 1 in 3 females will develop some sort of cancer in their lifetime.  In the last 10 years the survival rate for cancer has gone up over 30%.  50% of families that have a member diagnosed with cancer will use up all or most of their life savings.

How Would You Pay For…  Deductible and co-insurance?  Uncovered medical expenses?  Expenses for experimental treatment?  Lost income for patient and/or spouse?  Child care expenses?  Travel expenses?

Example  Deductible & Co-insurance$4,500  Uncovered medical expenses$1,950  Lost income for patient$5,875  Child care expenses$1,025  Travel expenses$3,300  Total Out-of-Pocket Expenses$16,650

Bottom Line  Heart Attack, Stroke and Cancer are very prevalent in our society.  More people than ever before are “physically” surviving these illnesses.  Many families will not survive “financially” if they are stricken with a critical illness.

Statistics About Accidental Injuries  There is an accident every minute in the U.S. that requires ER treatment or a hospital stay.  There are 2 million hospital stays per year resulting from accidental injuries.  There are 30 million ER visits per year due to accidents in the U.S.  There are an additional 30 million doctor’s visits each year resulting from accidents.  Accidents are an additional threat to your family’s financial well being.

There are two options available to you  Standard Protection –Includes only a major medical health insurance policy.  Total Protection Plan –Includes a major medical health insurance policy plus additional coverage which provides a large lump sum cash payment in the event of a critical illness or an accidental injury. –This option also includes a life insurance death benefit for your family! 

Total Protection Plan vs. Standard Protection MAJOR MEDICAL ONLY Total Protection Plan Major Medical Health Insurance Critical Illness Plan Life Insurance Accident Plan Standard Protection Major Medical Health Insurance CRITICAL ILLNESS MAJO R MEDICAL ACCIDENT COVERAGE

Conclusion  Let’s take a look at the 2 options so you can decide which makes the most sense for you and your family. Total Protection Worksheet
