 Think about: ◦ Would life have been the same for everyone? ◦ How would the Nazi’s control people? ◦ What would the Nazi’s do to people that opposed (were against) them?

 All must be able to identify terror methods used by the Nazis in Germany, using information from the sources (L3a-4b)  Most should be able to explain how the Nazis used terror in Germany, making inferences from the sources (L4a-6c)  Some could evaluate the impact that terror would have had on the people of Nazi Germany(6b+)

 An inference is a reasonable assumption you can make about a topic based on evidence.  For example, if someone is smiling, you can infer that they are probably happy. That is reasonable, you can not infer that they have won the lottery, as it is not reasonable to infer that based on them simply smiling.

 Look for- ◦ Methods that the Nazis used to terrorise people. ◦ Groups/ individuals that the Nazis terrorised. ◦ Groups/ individuals that carried out terror methods for the Nazis. ◦ What the consequences were for groups/ individuals that were terrorised.  2 minutes to read through and remember as much as you can!

 Write down as much as you can remember from the sources about: ◦ Methods that the Nazis used to terrorise people. ◦ Groups/ individuals that the Nazis terrorised. ◦ Groups/ individuals that carried out terror methods for the Nazis. ◦ What the consequences were for groups/ individuals that were terrorised.  90 seconds to write as much as you can on your whiteboard.

 Write it on the other side of you whiteboard so I can see what you have missed out.  What have you missed about: ◦ Methods that the Nazis used to terrorise people. ◦ Groups/ individuals that the Nazis terrorised. ◦ Groups/ individuals that carried out terror methods for the Nazis. ◦ What the consequences were for groups/ individuals that were terrorised.

A picture of a Jewish shop that has had its windows smashed by the Nazis, what does this tell you about how they treated groups that they did not like? The caption is just as important as the picture itself! What can you see in the source that might help you?

SourceEvidence from the sourceWhat I can infer about terror in Nazi Germany based on the evidence E.g.The source shows a broken window and the caption tells us that it is a Jewish shop. We can infer that the Nazis treated groups that they did not like very badly. We can infer that terror made it very scary for Jewish people to live in Nazi Germany. We can infer that force and violence were used by the Nazis against people/ groups that they did not like. 1 2 3 4

 The are four more sources that you are going to look at.  From each source you should be able to make 2 or three inferences.  Make sure you pick out relevant information!  You have 10 minutes. Finished? What do the sources agree about? Can you infer the same thing from more than one source?

 Move around the room and compare your table to others, have they done anything that you haven’t? Could you improve your answers?  3 minutes

 Source 2 states ‘I never saw him alive after that night’ and that he was taken because a neighbour ‘Told the police he was plotting against Hitler’  From this we can infer that the Nazis killed people that they suspected of plotting against Hitler, even if the evidence against them was weak.

 Source _ states/ shows (what evidence have you got)  From this, we can infer…(what can you say about terror in Nazi Germany based on the evidence?)  Source _ states/ shows (what evidence have you got)  From this, we can infer…(what can you say about terror in Nazi Germany based on the evidence?) Finished? How would terror have effected people in Nazi Germany? Try and put yourselves in their shoes!

 Read your partners answer, have they: ◦ Used the sentence starters? ◦ Selected relevant evidence from the source? ◦ Made a reasonable inference based on the evidence?  Set them a target, for example: ◦ Use the sentence starters provided. ◦ Make sure you use evidence that is to do with the topic. ◦ Make sure your inferences are reasonable and not too far-fetched.

 All must be able to identify terror methods used the Nazis in Germany, using information from the sources (L3a-4b)  Most should be able to explain how the Nazis used terror in Germany, making inferences from the sources (L4a-6c)  Some could evaluate the impact that terror would have had on the people of Nazi Germany(6b+)  Read your answer and partners comments- On your whiteboard- What level have you been working at today, what do you need to improve on next time we look at making inferences from sources?
