World War II By: Grace Phillips
Events & People The specific event I picked for WW II is the liberation of the concentration camps. This is when American soldiers freed the Jews and innocent people put into camps. Some main people in my Event would be Hitler. He was a Nazi dictator in Germany. He was the leader if the Nazis.
Impact! My event impacted the war because it happened towards the end of the war. Auschwitz was the largest camp established by the Germans. It was liberated on January 27,1945. This Camp was a huge impact because so many people were killed in this camp and it was the largest camp. Hitler impacted the War because he was the leader of the Nazis. Germany might not have even got involved in this war if it wasnt for him. He was a very racist person and didnt like anyone that was different.
How is this portrayed in history? I think people dont really understand how bad these camps where. A lot of people ask questions like, Where people in the camps really tortured? The answer to that question is duh! The Nazi told the Jews when they got there that work would set them free. They forced them to work with little food if an, no medical help and never little sleep. Its not fair to the Jews that not all their voices where heard and all there stories got to be told. It is good that we made the holocaust museum to memorial the Jews, and remember them. It was opened in April of 1993.

This is a picture of prisoners in the concentration camp. The camp they where in was called Buchenwald. This was taken the day the US troops came into the camp and started the liberation. Harry J. Herder, Jr was 1 of the soldiers that liberated this camp. He speaks of his experience, he starts is story like this. Over fifty years ago, I went through a set of experiences that I have never been able to shake from my mind. They subside in my mind, and, then, in the spring always, some small trigger will set them off and I will be immersed in these experiences once more. If that doesnt give you a clue of how bad it was then you would just have to look at pictures from the camps.
