8 The Old Man And the Sea The book is about a Cuban fisherman called Santiago, who is engaged in a battle to catch the biggest fish of his life. To break his 84 days of bad luck, he sailed farther out than he ever did and hooks a marlin. He endures three days for being towed by the fish, and almost in delirium, stabs the marlin with a harpoon. While returning to shore, sharks eat up the fish to its skeleton. Santiago returns to his hut exhausted, and the whole journey is as if it never happened. natural admiration for every individual who fights the good fight in a world of reality overshadowed by violence and death.

13 Of Mice and Men Plot: The dream crashes when Lennie accidentally kills the young and attractive wife of Curley, the ranch owner's son, while trying to stroke her hair. A lynch mob led by Curley gathers. George, realizing he is doomed to a life of loneliness and despair like the rest of the migrant workers and wanting to spare Lennie a painful death at the hands of the vengeful and violent Curley, shoots Lennie in the back of the head before the mob can find him after they had recited their dreams of owning their own land. “ I was a bindlestiff myself for quite a spell. I worked in the same country that the story is laid in. The characters are composites to a certain extent. Lennie was a real person. He's in an insane asylum in California right now. I worked alongside him for many weeks. He didn't kill a girl. He killed a ranch foreman. Got sore because the boss had fired his pal and stuck a pitchfork right through his stomach. I hate to tell you how many times I saw him do it. We couldn't stop him until it was too late.“ J. Steinbeck, 1937
