Answering Questions About Reading Read the question. Think about what you are being asked. As you read the information, highlight key words or phrases that will help you to answer the question. Support your answer with information from the text, using the comma-quote strategy. Use at least two examples from the text to support your answer, more if possible. comma-quote strategy Extend your answer by: backing up the information from the text with your personal experience or prior knowledge you have about the topic. explaining why this information is important or significant. (This means,... In other words,... I know this because..., etc.)

Comma-Quote Strategy When answering questions about reading, be sure to include evidence from the text to support your answer, using one or both of these methods: a) cite specific words and phrases from the text b) cite a passage from the text, using quotation marks to show that it is a direct quote. On page 12, the author said, "Xxxxxxxxx." I agree with the author when he/she wrote, "Xxxxxxx." An example from the text is on page 2, where it says, "Xxxxxxxx." Be sure to explain how the evidence you chose supports your answer.

Indirect Quote - An indirect quote is a quote in which you paraphrase - put into your own words - what the author is saying. For Example: Twain was unable to laugh or applaud, because he was so angry that Hicks could be mesmerized and he could not (659).

Direct Quote- A direct quote is a quote in which you copy an author's words directly - word for word. Direct quotes will be surrounded by quotation marks. For Example: "I couldn't laugh; I couldn't applaud; it filled me with bitterness to have others do it and to have people make a hero of Hicks and the people around him" (659).

Sometimes I get caught and sometimes I get away with it. ANCHOR PAPER

What kind of person was Amir from The Kite Runner? A … Amir was a chicken, but he was also a good person. He was not a very loyal friend, but he did have a conscience that bothered him. C… He was a chicken because he was too afraid to stick up for his friend Hassan because he Was only thinking of himself and how afraid he was of the bullies that were hurting Hassan. Then he framed Hassan for stealing his money so that he could get him to go away. He wanted him to go away because his conscience bothered him every time he saw him. He felt so guilty for what he did to Hassan that he thought about it for the rest of his life. But in the end, he rescued Hassan’s son from the orphanage to make up for his past mistakes. E… I don’t think I could ever do that to my friend. I know I would help my friends, no matter what risk it would cause for me. I would rather be hurt than have no loyalty.
