1 Annual Student Art Show

2  Choose two of the works of art to examine and answer the questions below about each one, keeping in mind that it is your personal response. There are no right or wrong answers.  Analyze the works, using the Toulmin argument by answering the questions below.  Name the artists and the works’ titles. If no titles, make one for each.  Feel free to use your reaction to the works to expand your imagination in applying comments.

3 1. Describe the works in detail as if your description is for a person who cannot see it. 2. What statements do you think the artists are making? 3. What do you see in the works that seems to support the artists' statements? 4. What claim do the titles seem to be making? If there are no titles, give them titles and then answer the question. 5. Take into consideration the colors, including black and white, the artists use, how do the colors reinforce the statements and titles? 6. How does the artist's medium (oils, pastels, etc., as well as pottery, sculpture, etc., depending on the two works you have chosen) reinforce their statements. 7. What symbols do you see in the works? Name them. How do they relate to what you see as the artists' statements. 8. Write a paragraph arguing whether or not you think the works of art support the statements that you believe the artists are making.
