1 CCHS MESA/Robotics Linked Learning

2 What is MESA? MESA stands for Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement. It is the first year of Engineering – linked learning program. The focus is on Mathematics and Science and allow students to apply academic content to real life situations and explore career opportunities. Project based learning models to study Engineering, Physics, and Mathematical concepts. Hands on projects include: balsawood bridges, balsawood gliders, Mousetrap cars, prosthetic arms, bottle rockets, robotics, and solar powered boat. The course will cover major aspects of Engineering, including Civil, Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Automotive

3 The second year of Engineering – linked learning program. The focus of the course is to allow students to integrate first year engineering concepts and apply in the context of robots. It aims to inspire and to present more opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic field. Special emphasis will be placed on the engineering process. The Robotics program will empower students with unique real-life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Through the program, students will develop academically and will develop socially with the focus on team-building, collaboration and mentoring. Students will compete in FTC competitions. 12 Enhancement Project #1 We included this project to learn more about a remote controlled car: the components of the car, the functions of each component, and how to implement what they learned to their own robot.

13 Enhancement Project #2 We created a remotely controlled underwater robot for the Seaperch Competition. Students learned how to solder the electrical components and waterproof the motors. They also learned buoyancy in this project.
