A desert is a landscape or region where there isn’t a lot of water or rain. In the desert it doesn’t rain more than 250 millimetres per year.

One finds deserts where there aren’t any trees or grass. About one third of the land on Earth is a desert.

There are two different types of deserts in the world. There are hot deserts and cold deserts.

A hot desert is made up of sand and rocks. During the day the temperature is very high but during the night it is very low. In Summer the temperature reaches 45 O C or more and in Winter it goes down to 0 O C.

The largest hot desert in the world is the Sahara in northern Africa. Other hot deserts include the Arabian Desert, the Gobi Desert in Syria and the Great Victoria Desert in Australia. Sahara Desert Arabian Desert Gobi Desert Great Victoria Desert

Many people think that there isn’t any life in the desert but they are wrong because there are a lot of animals and plants in the desert. Most animals come out at night when it is not so hot. prickly pearcacti desert holly brittlebush Saguaro cacti

Our class made these camels during a crafts lesson on a Wednesday afternoon.

This picture has been drawn by Antoine. This picture is in Egypt as one can see the pyramids besides the palm trees, the sun and the desert sand.

On these maps we coloured orange some of the major deserts.

The cactus and palm trees always seem to be present in our classmates’ paintings.

This is our displayed work about the deserts.
