Actions  Ordinary everyday actions  Simple combinations of stylised dance actions  Complex sequences of actions (req. physical & dynamic skill to control & perform)

Example of Actions  Small Actions Wagging a finger, nodding the head, circling the foot Wagging a finger, nodding the head, circling the foot  Large actions Split leaps, Spread Eagle jump etc Split leaps, Spread Eagle jump etc  These can happen in your own personal space  These can happen in the general space around you

Identifying Actions  Identify which part of the body is being moved  Describe what it is doing  Examples Whole body or an arm, leg, head, shoulder etc Whole body or an arm, leg, head, shoulder etc  Make a list of the body parts which could be moved

Actions: What we do  Make a list of the actions that you can do  Locomotion  Rotation  Weight Transference  Stillness  Extension & Contraction  Elevation  Gesture

Locomotion  Write down the different ways you can travel  Use of feet Walking, jogging, running, steps and jumps Walking, jogging, running, steps and jumps  Use of different body surfaces Rolling, curling, elongated Rolling, curling, elongated  Slide on different body parts Feet, bottom, knees, side Feet, bottom, knees, side  Movement in different directions Forwards, backwards, sideways, turning, or on a path of your own choosing Forwards, backwards, sideways, turning, or on a path of your own choosing

Weight Transference  Changing your support from one body part to another  One foot to the other  Feet to hands  Front of body to back of body  Write down a series of weight transferences where you may start standing and end on the floor, or vice-versa

Jumps  Write down all the different ways/directions we can jump  On the spot  Travelling  Different leg shapes  Can use the spine - arched, tilted, contracted, upright  Can turn  Go in different directions  Large or small  Various arm gestures  Spatial features (shape & size of body in the air, direction of the jump)

Rotation (Turns/Turning)  Write down all the different ways that we can turn  Quarter, half, full  Clockwise, anticlockwise  On the hips  On the length of the body  On the knees  On hand & feet  On two feet  On one foot  With a jump

Extension & Contraction  Stretch & Curl  Reaching, up, down, diagonally, forwards, backwards, towards, away etc  You can reach in different directions  Reach at different speeds  Use your spine – arch & lean

Describe the actions in the picture  Locomotion  Weight Transference  Stillness  Gesture  Elevation  Rotation  Extension & Contraction A

B C D

A-Z Action Vocabulary  Starting at A go through the alphabet & give at least one action word for every letter  If you can find two, three or four – even better!
