2  The USA is the fourth largest country in the world in size and population.

3  The USA is placed in the middle of the North American continent and washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west. It has an area 9400000 square kilometers and is twice as large as all the countries of Europe combined. In the USA live 290 million people. The capital of the USA is Washington,D.C.(District of Columbia)

4  The USA consists of fifty states. The largest state is Alaska. Hawaii is one of the smallest states.

5  Along the Atlantic Coast the land is flat, inland from the coast there are the Appalachian Mountains. In the middle of the continent there is the great Mississippi River. The Mississippi is one of the longest rivers in the world. The north-western part of the USA includes five lakes.

6  The main rivers are the Mississippi, the Missouri, the Colorado and the Ohio.

7  The capital of the USA is Washington. It is situated on the Potomac River not far from the Atlantic coast. Wasington is not a very large city. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Detroit, New Orleans are larger.
