1 Frederick Gowland Hopkins By: Ella Swain

2 Introduction Frederick Gowland Hopkins was born on 20 th June 1861. Born in Eastbourne, Sussex, this soon to be important scientist was a bright student in many subjects, especially sciences. When studying biochemistry, he completed his diploma in University of London External Program.

3 Little did he know that many other famous biochemists would come to him to help develop their companies name…

4 Everything started in 1898, when he was attending a Physiological Society meeting, and was asked to join the Physiological Laboratory in Cambridge to use his talent to discover more.

5 He taught for 4 years in the physiological and toxicological branch. Later becoming in charge of the Chemical Department Of Clinical Research Association.

6 Frederick was known for his series of animal feeding diets with fat, carbohydrates, protein, minerals and water that later helped Frederick develop Vitamins!

7 The science to it… Vitamins work by supplying your body’s cells with protein, fat, water, and carbohydrates to keep your body working. The vitamins are usually stored in cells and organs that can last up to a year. So you need a daily supply to be strong and healthy. Frederick discovered this, and developed vitamins that give us the strength for each day.

8 Frederick Gowland Hopkins was awarded: Royal Medal (1918) Copley Medal (1926) Nobel Peace Award (1929) Order of Merit (1935)

9 Frederick Gowland Hopkins died on 26 th May 1947, age 86
