8 BT Test Objectives & Management The over-arching objective of 21st Century Network Testing and Trials is to deliver fit-for-purpose 21CN Network, Systems and Process Components. The key objectives for testing & trials are defined below and must meet BT’s Launch Integration Process Quality Gate criteria, in general they are as follows: - To ensure that the functionality provided works as expected and supports all the requirements of the 21CN Programme To ensure that interfaces between Networks and Systems are functioning as described in the technical architecture To ensure that all elements of the solution function correctly under normal and error conditions (technical and operational) Industry Communication on Testing will be managed through the Consult21 Conformance Testing Working Group

9 21CN Test Strategy Principles BT collates and run Generic Test cases BT communicates Generic Test results to Industry via the Conformance Testing Working Group For infrastructure (as appropriate/applicable) For products For product migration verification tests For CPE testing (as appropriate/applicable) Non – Generic Test case requirements reviewed by the Conformance Testing Working Group CPE testing focuses on a representative selection of equipment in use in the market

10 BT’s initial view of Consultation Timetable December 2005: Create the Conformance Testing Working Group Communicate Test strategy principles January/February 2006 Launch Conformance Testing Working Group Communicate BT’s Testing Strategy including initial Generic test list & Test Case requirements capture template Communicate CPE test list to Communication Providers so that potential additions can be identified February/March 2006 BT Review Test Case requirements capture and update Generic test list BT produces a final prioritised list of CPE to test April 2006 onwards Generic test results made available to Conformance Testing Working Group CPE test results made available to Conformance Testing Working Group

11 CPE Testing Context 21CN is compliant to UK Transmission Plan, as is the existing PSTN. However complex routed calls over multiple operator’s networks can already exceed the UK National Transmission Plan limits. Industry is invited to note presentation on 15/12/05 by Allan Good to Interconnect & Portfolio Working Group on this topic The UK Transmission Plan can be found at: http://www.nicc.org.uk http://www.nicc.org.uk BT Supplier Information Notes (SINs) can be found at: http://www.sinet.bt.com http://www.sinet.bt.com
