2 2 Our role and our aims Our role: to help make the University a place of world-class learning, discovery and enterprise Two of our key aims –to deliver the highest standards of integrated support of all kinds, working across institutional boundaries –to be a place where you really want to work because you are valued, respected and fairly rewarded

3 3 What is the context for this year? First year of the new tuition fee and financial support regime for students and for roll out of Full Economic Costing of Research In the final stages of preparing for the RAE Reward, Reward, Reward Major capital programme starting to roll Current and future cost pressures and the ongoing pressure to achieve sustainability

4 4 A few of the big things from this year? Positive Work Environment survey The new weekly on-line Personnel update service Growing investment in IT systems and infrastructure –On-line student registration & on-line payments –ROSE for on-line publications –Wireless Networks inside & out The new multi faith centre, supporting students and staff from over 100 countries

5 5 A few more big things Internal launch of the Centenary Campaign Green Gown awards The new searchable online news service Subtext Significant new borrowing facilities from the European Investment bank

6 6 What are the challenges for the next few years? Delivering a major and complex capital programme on budget, on time and to spec Practical Steps help deliver the cash flow needed for investment in people and facilities A student accommodation plan for the next ten years as a key part of the student experience A new IT strategy and roll-out of more major systems, including shared purchasing and financial information

7 7 Other challenges for the next few years Developing career structures and skills that will make the work environment positive and improve delivery Environmental sustainability and our response The student experience – how do we make it even better? Post RAE – building on our position as an outstanding research University.
