Thanksgiving

THANKSGIVING

THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival.

THANKSGIVING It is a holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States.

THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving is one of the most popular holidays in the United States of America. Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a holiday that Americans spend together with their families who enjoy a Thanksgiving meal which usually includes the traditional Thanksgiving turkey.

THANKSGIVING THE PILGRIMS who celebrated the first thanksgiving in America, were fleeing religious prosecution in England. On Sept. 6, 1620 the Pilgrims set sail for the New World on a ship called the Mayflower.

THANKSGIVING When the Pilgrims arrived in America, life was very difficult and their crops wouldn´t grow. They soon became hungry and sick.

THANKSGIVING A Native Indian decided to help them. His name was Squanto and he belonged to the Wampanoag tribe.

THANKSGIVING Squanto and his people gave the Pilgrims food and taught them how to hunt, fish and grow corn. The next harvest was a good one. The Pilgrims decided to celebrate with a feast and invited the Native Indians who had helped them. It was their way of saying THANK YOU!

THANKSGIVING THANKSGIVING DINNER The centerpiece of contemporary Thanksgiving is a large meal, generally centered around a large roasted turkey. The majority of the dishes of Thanksgiving Dinner are made from foods native to the New World.

THANKSGIVING THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS  Turkey  Football  Parades  Making wishes  Giving thanks

THANKSGIVING BLACK FRIDAY Black Friday is a term for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.

THANKSGIVING Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees have the day off, which increases the number of potential shoppers.

THANKSGIVING Many retailers open extremely early, with most of the retailers typically opening at 5AM or even earlier. Upon opening, retailers offer door buster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores.

THANKSGIVING The term "Black Friday" originated in reference to the heavy traffic on that day. Recently, people have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red to being in the black.

THANKSGIVING Buy Nothing Day is an international day of protest against consumerism. Typically celebrated the Friday after American Thanksgiving in North America and the following day internationally, in 2009 the dates are November 27 and 28 respectively.
