SPANISH STEPS A JOURNEY THROUGH SPAIN’S WINE REGIONS

The Vision…. “Spanish Steps is an educational brand that takes the consumer on a vinous journey through Spain's lesser known wine regions. The Spanish Steps vision was to handpick some of the best, and unique wines in Spain and create a fresh and exciting new brand. The wineries involved in the creation of the Spanish Steps Project are: Bodegas Monte La Reina – Spanish Steps Toro Bodegas Arribes del Duero – Spanish Steps Arribes Bodegas Castro Bergidum – Spanish Steps Bierzo Valsanzo SA – Spanish Steps Rueda Valsanzo SA - Spanish Steps Ribera del Duero The brand was developed by Oakley Wine Agencies in 2008

A journey through Spain’s Wine regions Castilla y León

SPANISH STEPS BIERZO John Radford – Visits Bodegas Castro Bergidum to taste the Bierzo in 2009 Winner of the trophy for best red wine under £6 at last year's Spanish New wave wine awards. Chunky red wine with bright fruit flavour, rich dense body, and a rounded finish. 100% Mencia grape variety Commended in the IWC awards 2011 “Spanish Steps Mencia Bierzo, Spain - 88/100 From northwest Spain, this varietal Mencia (known as Jaen in Portugal) really delivers. Deep coloured, it has a lovely vibrant, pure nose of summer fruits with a plummy edge. Fruit dominates, but there’s nice definition here. The palate is juicy and ripe with lovely bright blackberry and damson character, as well as fresh acidity. Pure and primary, this is a delicious wine for current drinking.” Jamie Goode – Wine anorak

SPANISH STEPS RUEDA Decanter 2011 – Bronze medal IWC 2011 – Commended 100% Verdejo (Indigenous grape of the area) “Spanish Steps Rueda : I'm a great fan of the Verdejo grape. I love it's intense lemony excitement. It gives us a rich and juicy mix of ripe aromas fused well into a broad and yet well structured palate. It's fabulous stuff.” Kevin Alcock

SPANISH STEPS TORO From the ultra-modern Monte La Reina winery, this Toro wine is full of character and flavour yet frighteningly easy to drink. 100% Tempranillo (known here as Tinto de Toro) “Spanish Steps Toro 2008 - 87/100 Wonderfully bright, fresh, pure raspberry and dark cherry fruit with a bit of grip. Nice bright fruit here with some meaty, savoury depth. Lovely fruit expression.” Jamie Goode – Wine Anorak Bodegas Monte La Reina

SPANISH STEPS ARRIBES Decanter 2011 – Commended The Arribes region lies on the 'International Douro/Duero', right next to the Portuguese border. The Juan García grape holds sway here. High in acidity it is perfect for making delicious rosé wine with a vivid colour and brilliant red-fruit character “Arribes Rosé 83/100 - Bright pink/red colour. Fruity and persistent with cherry and herb notes, as well as some savoury, plummy bitterness.” Jamie Goode – Wine Anorak

SPANISH STEPS RIBERA DEL DUERO The Ribera de Duero is a wild, chunky red wine with bright Autumn fruit and velvety soft tannins. The most recently launched of the Spanish Steps range this is an exciting red wine made from 100% Tempranillo. To the right is a photograph of The famous Spanish horse that gave the inspiration to the authentic label Design of the Spanish Steps range.

The Spanish Steps labels all follow the same design and for each appellation a different label colour is used to differentiate between them. A simple, modern and authentic design which is easy for the consumer to recognise. Modern label Design – Cohesive branding throughout
