2. Shift Work Shift work is a practice which allows companies to work at their full potential 24 hours a day 7 days a week also known as 24/7. The practical use for this method allows employees to have either day shifts or nights shifts instead of having everyone working from 8am to 6pm (a 10 hour working period). There would be a schedule with work rotations e.g.: employee ‘A’ will work their shift from 8am to 1pm, then Employee ‘B’ will then take over and work from 1pm to 6pm and so on till the full 24h rotation is complete.

3. Fixed Term Fixed term employment is when an an individual signs a contract with the organization they work for, it doesn't’t fall under fixed term employment if they sign the contract with an agency rather than a company they work for. The end of the fixed term is when the date of the contract is over or on the completion of specific tasks or the end of a project. An example of this would be builders or architects who work on projects until its completed and the contract is over.

4. Office Hours Office hours are the hours during the day in which business is conducted and this can vary between jobs. Office hours would be the time you start work till the moment you finish and any work done outside of your dedicated times will not count as office hours. A comparison can be done with schools/colleges in which we begin at 9am and finish at 3pm and any work done outside of this time will be considered revision or homework as oppose to the work done in school.

5. Freelance Freelancers also known as independent contractors on paper and are self-employed individuals who don’t directly work for any companies or agencies under long term employment. Freelancers can be represented by companies or agencies who have taken interest on their labor and aid them to get their work out there. Freelancers tend to work on creative work such as music, journalism, screenwriting, filmmaking, acting, photography and so on.

6. Irregular Patterns Irregular working patterns are jobs which involve non- consistent hours changing between day shifts and night shifts. These have said to put tremendous strain on people who have been involved in professions like this. These jobs are typically for truck drivers or doctors who work day and night with last minute jobs (working 15h shifts etc..).

7. Hourly Rates Hourly rates are based on the income you receive hourly from the employer to the employee and depending on the job this can vary from minimum wage to extensive pay. Its different from a salary which is based off a fixed time period where the employee is paid monthly as oppose to daily.

8. Piece Work Piece work is when an individual gets paid based of the quality of the work they produce. When the individual is paid it’s never usually consistent as it depends on the quality and quantity of the work. Examples of these type of workers are artists (painters, sculptor, textiles etc...).
