4. The U.S. admits more immigrants each year than all the other countries of the world combined. By 2050 non- Hispanic whites will be 47% of the population, down from 62% in 2005; Hispanics will grow to 29% and the number of Asians will triple.

11. Arizona passed a law last April requiring the police to check on the immigration status of people suspected of being in the U.S. Illegally. The federal government through the courts has blocked implementation of the law. The U.S. Supreme court will hear the case this year in April.

12. Alabama has passed the most restrictive law to date. It requires all public schools to check on the immigration status of the students. Implementation of the Alabama law is also being blocked.

13. THE ALABAMA LAW HAS HURT FARMERS WHO NEED IMMIGRANT WORKERS

14. After the Alabama law passed, immigrant farm workers started to leave the state.

15. Potato farmer, Keith Smith from Oneonta, Alabama said,” I hired Americans, but it has not worked out. They show up late, work slower and are ready to call it a day after lunch or by mid afternoon.”

16. Blueberry farmer Connie Horner in South Georgia said, “You can not find legal workers. Basically they last a day or two.”

17. Agricultural businesses have suffered the most immediate effects of the new law. Farmers have said they will have to downsize or let the crops die in the fields.
