2 What is IB? An international academic program that has high standards in assessments, is comprised of a comprehensive, balanced, common curriculum, and places emphasis on international understanding Bloomfield offers 16 IB courses which can be taken as ‘stand-alone’ courses or can be combined in pursuit of the IB Diploma

Students take 6 academic courses (one from groups an additional elective from groups 1-6) over junior & senior year

Group 1 (English): IB Literature I &II (HL) Group 2 (LOTE): IB Spanish I & II (SL OR HL) IB French I & II (SL) Group 3 (Humanities): IB History of the Americas I & II (HL) IB Psychology (SL) Group 4 (Sciences): IB Biology I & II (HL) IB Physics I (SL) Group 5 (Maths): IB Math (SL) IB Math Studies (SL) Group 6 (Arts): IB Music I &II (SL OR HL) IB Design Tech I & II (SL) IB Visual Arts I & II (SL)

6 Additional IB Diploma Requirements
IB Diploma Candidates must also complete: Theory of Knowledge course 150 (CAS) Creativity, Activity, Service hours Extended Essay of approx. 4,000 words

IB is the most challenging & prestigious academic program offered at Bloomfield High School The dynamic project-based, in-depth learning environment is unique to IB classrooms The cohort of students is comprised of dedicated, motivated students who want to learn, research, and become active in civic and global issues It is the only universal college-prep comprehensive program available at US and international high schools

8 College credit is an added bonus
IB Diploma candidates are better prepared for post-secondary study at the bachelor’s and master’s level IB Diploma candidates are clearly identified during the college application process The IB Diploma Programme is not designed as a fast-track to college credit, however many schools recognize the coursework and award college credit based upon either final IB assessment scores and/or IB Diploma attainment

10 IB Facts @ BCS The average GPA of our senior IB DP Candidates is 95.7%
50% of the top 10 of our senior class Every student ranked in the top 10 of our senior class takes at least 1 IB class
