TRAVEL Warm Up: Work out the speeds 60km in 3 hours 800km in 8 hours 10km in 30 minutes 12km in 20 mins 8km in 10 mins **20km in 45 minutes 100km in 2 hours 20 km/hr 100 km/hr 20 km/hr 36 km/hr 48 km/hr 50 km/hr 26.7 km/hr

OBJECTIVE: By the end of the lesson you should… …be able to Interpret journeys from their travel graphs(All pupils) Work out speeds for parts of a journey(Most pupils) Draw travel graphs given the journey details(Some pupils)

Q: How far did Melanie bike before she turned round and came home? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: 35 km

Q: How far did Melanie bike before she took a 15 minute break? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: 15 km

Q: What was Melanie’s speed in the first part of the journey? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: 15km in 30 minutes means 30km in an hour so SPEED=30 km/hr

Q: How far did Melanie bike in her second stint? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: She was at 15km and biked to 35km. This is an extra 20km

Q: What was Melanie’s speed in this segment of the journey? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: She biked 20km in 2 hours which is 10km every hour SPEED=10 km/hr

Q: How long did Melanie take for her lunch? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: 45 minutes

Q: What was Melanie’s average speed on her journey home? Melanie’s Bike Ride A: 35 km in 5 hours. This is 7km every hour SPEED=7 km/hr

Key Question: Today’s lesson is about interpreting travel graphs. At the end of the lesson you will draw your own travel graph for this journey, a skill that we will consolidate next lesson. Dave set off from home at 08.00 He drove 40km in half an hour Hestopped at the servie (for his breakfast), taking 15 minutes He then drove another 60km in the next hour He has his meeting which took 1 hour He came straight home at a speed of 25 km/hr
