7. Wireless Networking What Is WiFi? A wireless network uses radio waves, just like cell phones, televisions and radios do. In fact, communication across a wireless network is a lot like two-way radio communication. 9. How do we Connect to the Internet? The Internet is similar to a VERY LARGE network… with millions of servers and computers interconnected. To connect to all of these other computers, we need the addition of 1) a Modem, 2) an ISP, or Internet Service Provider (Bell, Rogers, Cogeco).

10. Why Do We Need ISP’s? ISPs are responsible to creating and maintaining the network infrastructure (“The Internet Roads”). ISPs place the cables to expand the network infrastructure, they will also fix it if it gets damaged. ISP also have DNS servers, these DNS servers translate the domain name you enter and convert it into an IP address. Your IP address is essentially where you are on the Internet map.
