Learning Objective Learning Objective: Given websites of the early explorers and the routes that they took, the student will be able to research the explorers and then answer two questions in the PowerPoint over the material they read with a 100% accuracy. 3 Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus was a Italian explorer that discovered the Americas for King Ferdinand of Spain in 1492. Goal: Goal: To find an alternative path to India. 4 Amerigo Vespucci Google images Biography.com Amerigo Vespucci was a Italian explorer that explored the coast of South and North America. Goal Goal: To find Western route to Asia! Theory Theory: The land that Columbus found was not Asia, but a new continent. Outcome Outcome: He was right! Because of this, America was named after him! Click the picture! 5 Hernando de Soto Hernando de Soto was a Spanish explorer and conquistador that was known to have discovered the Mississippi River and his participation in the conquests of Central America and Peru. Robert de La Salle was a French explorer that was known to sail the entirety of the Mississippi River and discovering the Coast of Mexico. Goal Goal: To explore and establish a fur-trade routes.
