This is our overnight field trip. We have scheduled it for March 26-28th and the cost will be around $380.00 per person for a quad. However, the cost depends on participation. So, the sooner we know who is interested, the sooner we can make plans. If you are interested in knowing more about this trip, please e-mail me. We will send more details home as soon as we have a firm proposal. St. Augustine Trip

Communication Please subscribe to my RSS feed. I use my web page a lot to communicate upcoming events, homework, field trips, projects, the uniform policy, and other important information. We send weekly work folders home each week, usually on Tuesdays. Please sign all tests, and the back sheet of the folder, and return that to us the next school day.

Homework and Projects Homework is due the day after is assigned. It is intended as reinforcement of critical skills and for extended learning. Please do not turn in anything late. Projects are opportunities to explore concepts more deeply, to learn how to problem solve, and to have a chance to be creative. I assign projects so that students have at least 2 weekends to complete them. I will post details on my web page.

Fifth Grade Changes: Big and Small ~academic and physical changes ~children switch teachers for core subjects ~they eat in the cafeteria instead of the classroom

Email E-mail is the easiest way to get in touch with me as it is checked frequently throughout the day. Please make sure to list your current e-mail on the clipboard. Please also take a moment to fill in a meeting slot on the clipboard for parent/teacher conferences in October.

NWEA’s MAP Test We look for proficiency and growth. See the sample reports at: http://support.nwea.org/sites/www.nwea. org/files/resources/AnnotatedReports- MAP_0.pdf We will send your child’s MAP report home during the fall and will also discuss their scores during conferences.

Powerschool for Parents! The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has now made Powerschool available to parents. You will now be able to log in to the parent portal to view your child’s grades and attendance. We will no longer be sending progress reports home because you can see your child’s progress any time you like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk9UBBJ4BP8 However, in order to access your child’s information, you must sign for a family access code. I have an assistant who will give you your family code after you sign for it.

Volunteering Please look at my classroom wish list (found on the back of your Core Knowledge sheet). I appreciate volunteer help and I have listed some areas where I could use help. If you can help with anything on the list, or would like to share a special skill with our students, please let me know. Please go see Mrs. Maimone, next door, and then you will go to the gym to hear Mr. Cole at 5:40 pm. Thank you for coming and looking forward to a great school year!
