3 Worldwise Overarching principle; Engage geography teachers, teachers of geography and young people (EYFS – Post 16) to develop a secure understanding of the World in which they live. Key aims; Provide directly to teachers and young people opportunities that stimulate a passion of geographical concepts by constructing meaning, deeper thinking and understanding of interconnectedness, interdependency and processes in a world of change. Develop young peoples geographical vocabularies, their geographical imaginations of the World around them at a variety of scales and it stimulates their personal geographies.

4 …….at a glance LocalNationalInternational Approx 2000 participantsApprox 50 invited participants4 UK participants Local Quiz Face to face quiz for teams of three (yrs 8-10) secondary pupils organised locally between or within schools Geography Awareness Week Designated week in June each year for primary and secondary (incl. post 16) pupils to undertake a range of activities on a geographical theme available in electronic poster format from the website Online Quizzes Online quiz questions in various formats for primary & secondary pupils accessed via the GA website for completion throughout the yr Secondary schools build up portfolios of evidence of having participated across a range of Worldwise activities. This is used by the GA in January each year to select up to 9 teams to compete in the Challenge weekend Worldwise Challenge This is the culmination of Worldwise for secondary schools Up to 9 teams of 3 pupils (plus accompanying teacher) will be invited to a Field Studies Council centre in Mar/Apr for a free-of-charge weekend of engaging & innovative fieldwork activities devised by the GA. The overall winners of the event will receive a trophy with other prizes for best team in the field and best presentation & display International Geographical Union Olympiad Four post 16 students from the entries to the international competition will be selected to represent the UK in this competition Sept-Dec: Local Quizzes take place during the autumn term Jan: Selection for the Challenge Mar/Apr: Challenge weekend My Places winners announced Jun: Geography Awareness Week Jul: International events take place Timeline of Key Activities My Places Competition Where primary and secondary students (incl. post 16) can upload images & text to explain why the place they have chosen is significant to them. The place can be one that they have visited or one that they would like to visit. Primary My Places Winners This is the culmination of Worldwise for primary schools. The best primary submissions to the My Places site will be awarded special prizes and they will also be showcased at the GA Conference My Places entries will be judged during January. A range of prizes will be awarded to the winning schools
