Product Anatomy: List the design features of a typical example of the product you’re designing Label a diagram with them. Product Analysis x 3 ACCESS FM Aesthetics Cost Customer Environment Size Safety Function Materials Page 2 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Material 1 Materials investigation: focus on materials that may be used to manufacture your product e.g. wood, metal, plastic, glass. Method of Making 1 Information on manufacturing processes you are likely to use in your project e.g. cutting, shaping, forming, bending, casting, moulding, joining and finishing processes. One Designer’s work and how it could influence my project Investigation of the work of a famous designer or design style that may influence your product. Material 2Method of Making 2 Material 3Method of Making 3 Page 3 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number For each piece of research explain HOW IT AFFECTS your design Explain why each piece of research is IMPORTANT

Questionnaire Questionnaire with introduction and explanation, who has been asked, why, etc. Show reduced copy of questionnaire sent out. Results of Questionnaire Results presented using ICT and individually analysed with full conclusion. Specification Full product specification – Use ACCESS FM, and report format, 1.0, 1.1, etc. and clear introduction focusing on: Aesthetics Customer Cost Environment Safety Size Function Materials & Manufacture User Profile: Age, gender, location, likes, dislikes, aesthetic choices, where they shop, disposable income, media consumption, Page 4 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number Target Market Questionnaire Target Market Questionnaire Specification

Brainstorm Introduction to ideas: briefly explain how you’re going to generate and devlop your ideas Brainstorm of social, moral, environmental and sustainability issues relating to the design of your product. Gantt Chart for idea development Sketch ideas Sketch model Refined Model Sketchup Model Moodboard Mini mood board to reflect target market group/product/genre. Fill this space with lots of images of similar products, the target user, and designs and colours and textures and materials that you find inspirational Page 5 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Ideas Part one Range of imaginative and innovative ideas demonstrating creativity, flair and originality. A coherent and appropriate design strategy showing a wide variety of techniques including hand drawn outline sketches, presentation sketches, technical detail, annotation, CAD and photographed images (as appropriate). Reference to Ideas Gantt chart (Page 5) Detail of industrial manufacturing methods, materials, components, ergonomics and function of product. References to the research. 9 Review Ideas against Specification Review the ideas against the Specification. Full and detailed conclusions stating which ideas or aspects of different ideas are to be developed. Page 9 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number Specification PointScore /

Develop Part One Develop a single idea to a final workable design solution. Produce sketches and models to test, develop and improve all aspects of the product to fulfil all aspects of the specification. Produce CAD models of 3D aspects of the product. Produce CGI versions of 2D aspects of the products. Include reference to material choices demonstrating knowledge of their working properties. Demonstrate consideration of surface finish techniques. Demonstrate consideration of a variety of colour combinations. Demonstrate consideration of industrial manufacturing methods. Demonstrate the effects of ongoing research. Demonstrate the effects of continual review against the specification Page 10 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Final idea. A final cutting list showing materials, sizes, costs, and quantity. Review the final idea against the ACCESS FM specification. Fully detailed and justified product/manufacturing specification: List the materials/sizes/tolerances/measurements/finishes/processes/tools/joining methods/components you are going to use to make your product to a high standard. Explain why each aspect is important Page 12 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Planning Clear introduction to purpose of planning production. WHY DO WE PLAN Produce a detailed flowchart with inputs, processes and outputs. Produce a production plan showing how your product will be produced in the school workshop. For each stage include a stage number, title, diagram, a written description with details of materials and components, material preparation, health and safety, and quality assurance. Page 13 GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Quality Control Use the stage numbers and headings from your production plan to draw up a quality control checklist. For each stage include the title, describe the risk, rate the risk (high, medium, low), suggest a control measure and level space for verification. Verify the quality checklist as you manufacture your product. Page 14GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Making Part One Manufacturing stages – use photographs and diagrams to show each stage of making. Discuss tools, processes, techniques, health and safety, and quality control procedures in detail. Record the problems you encountered and explain how some parts of the product or process have been altered. Demonstrate using photographic evidence that you can work safely and with accuracy. Assess the commercial viability of your product and its suitability for the target market. Page 15GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Making Part Two Manufacturing stages – use photographs and diagrams to show each stage of making. Page 16GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Making Part Three Manufacturing stages – use photographs and diagrams to show each stage of making. Page 17GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Testing Testing and checks: Devise and conduct a series of tests for the final product to ensure all of the specifications are met. Include photographic evidence of the tests and checks. Show the finished products on clean backgrounds and in use. Page 18GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Evaluation Evaluate the product by compiling a questionnaire and getting the end-user or members of the target market group to test the product. Include photographs of the product being tested by the clients in its real environment. Page 19GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number

Modifications Discuss how the results of the testing and evaluating have highlighted potential improvements and modifications of your design. Use sketching, CAD or CGI software with notes to show alterations to improve the design if you could make it again Page 20GCSE Product DesignYour NameCandidate Number
