4 Label and date everything Memoir September 7, 2005 First Draft It was one of those typical days in July. The weather was predictable and all of my friends were doing their usual boring, summer things---swimming, playing video games, ‘ going on vacations. That was until the unbelievable happened.

7 Understand that writing is thinking. Do not distract other writers. Find your special writing Place and write…Unlock the door…listen to your voice.

8 When you are stuck… Look in your writer’s notebook Check your writing territories Check your notes

9 When you edit. Look at your proofreading list Self edit in a different color from the print of your text. unbelieveable unbelieveable It was one of those unbelieveable days in through summer. The rain was peeking threw clouds, trying to ruin my day.

10 Complete an editing self check list. 1. Check for name and date. _____ 2. I stayed on topic. _____ 3. I have a capital at the beginning of my sentences._______ 4. I have punctuation at the end of my sentences. (! ?.) _____ 5. I have read it out loud to my partner. _____

11 When you are finished… Clip or staple everything together, including draft, notes, lists, peer conference form, editing check list. File it in your folder for the teacher to review. The final copy will be on top.

12 Record every piece of writing you finish on the form inside. Reflect on your writing.

13 Write as well and as much as you can. Work hard…make literature. Find the writer within you. It’s there and you will be famous some day! Believe me!
