6 Learning in Media Arts Media Arts: Students use communications technologies to tell stories, represent and communicate ideas and explore concepts. Linier & non-linier media electronic interactive media technologies: Radio, television, film, video, internet, computer games and mobile media,. Print-based media: newspapers; magazine, bill boards Merged media: e-newspapers & e-magazine, electronic billboards and signs.

7 Media Participation & Education 1. We live in a media-saturated environment. 2. Media literacy emphasizes critical thinking. 3. Being media literate is part of being an educated citizen. 4. Media literacy promotes active participation in a media- saturated environment. 5. Media education helps us to understand communication technologies. 6. 8 Being (Media)Literate Literacy is the ability to read and write and use written information appropriately in a range of contexts. It also involves the integration of speaking, listening, viewing and critical thinking with reading and writing, and includes the cultural knowledge which enables a speaker, reader or writer to recognise and use language appropriate to different social situations. (State and Federal Ministers of Education, 1997)

9 What is and why animation? Animation is a form of optical illusion where inanimate objects or drawings appear to move by displaying slightly altered states, one after another. Animation is a media genre that is still commonly used and one students engage with from their earliest media exposure through to the present day.
