3 Professional Accreditation  The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is responsible for approving qualifications for pharmacists and accrediting education providers  New MPharm degree courses have provisional accreditation (Steps 3-6) until their first cohort of students graduate  University of Birmingham has been successful in achieving Step 3 of the accreditation process  See www.pharmacyregulation.org

5 The MPharm Curriculum

6 Entry to the UoB MPharm degree  GCSE Maths Grade A, English Grade B (min.) – AS Maths Grade C acceptable as alternative  Predicted grades at least ABB  Typical offer AAA/AAB – Chemistry – One other science (Biology, Maths, Physics) – Third subject from wide range NOT General Studies or Critical Thinking NOT Maths and Further Maths  Ideal: Chemistry, Biology, Maths

7 Other Entry Requirements  Satisfactory health declaration  Evidence of appropriate immunisation  Sign up to Code of Conduct for MPharm Students  Satisfactory DBS check Personal Statements  Clear commitment to a career in pharmacy  Detailed information about healthcare-related work experience  Potential for leadership and management  Evidence of communication skills

8 Interviews  No offer made without interview  Candidates selected for interview on basis of:  Achieved and predicted grades (GCSE, AS and A2)  Personal statement  Referee’s comments  Scenario-based questions:  professional situations  ethical dilemma  numeracy assessment  Typically 20 minutes, two interviewers
