Professional growth Objectives 1)Pilot program 2)Familiarize/re-familiarize ourselves with new Standards and Indicators 3)Consider the importance of data and the different types of data 4)Consider the importance of professional goals

Professional growth Pilot Programme All teachers new to AIS Teachers recommended by their Group Leaders Some volunteers

Professional growth Pilot Programme One year New standards indicators New goal setting expectations New observation protocols and documents Importance of a range of data points

Professional Growth Professional Growth at AIS fosters four themes: improved student learning, improved operational processes and infrastructure, planned professional growth; and the culture of collaboration within our school. The professional growth process at AIS embodies the mission and values of our school; it will require honesty from participants and trust in a transparent, confidential and fair process, as well as a commitment from all to continuous improvement. The process of professional growth at AIS is founded upon the following necessary elements: clearly articulated and agreed professional standards and measurable outcomes, a structured and time delineated process, the collection of reliable data (combining both qualitative and quantitative evidence) from different sources and stakeholders, and clear and constructive feedback.

Standards and Indicators… Performance Standard 1: Instructional Planning Performance Standard 2: Instructional Delivery Performance Standard 3: Assessment of/for Learning Performance Standard 4: learning Environment Performance Standard 5: Professionalism Performance Standard 6: Student Progress

Professional Growth…data Group brainstorm exercise… Pre assessment diagnostics – establishing areas in which students’ skills knowledge are secure and those areas requiring support and focus. Developing student portfolios (digital or otherwise) Use of observation data (formal, informal, peer etc.); learning strategies, learning environment, approach to differentiation; student equity. Use of video of students performance (formative, summative) – debate, Science lab, dance, etc Analyzing criteria scores from assignments (common assessments for example) Collection of and analysis of student feedback (structured, systematic) Analyzing student reflection on final assessments/projects

Professional Growth…data Group brainstorm exercise… Predicted IBDP grades and actual Criteria scores on IBDP Internal Assessment Feedback of observations regarding professional roles and responsibilities

Goals… To attend MYP category 3 training on assessment To get my 7 th graders to build a website in class To develop a collaborative common summative assessment for the 8 th grade team To learn to cope better with stress To add my 9 th grade unit onto Atlas ( no mention of student learning results/data, no HOW? (plan to accomplish), not time frame, not specific, unrealistic in some cases – what is the direct link to student learning? )

Goals… SMART goals Specific Measureable Appropriate Realistic Time limited

SMART goals… By the end of the year all students will score a 5 or above on paper one IBDP assessment By the end of the second trimester, all my students will improve their writing scores at least one criteria point By the end of the school year, all students will demonstrate the ability to communicate information, ideas, and opinions in another language by achieving a performance level of 7-8 on Criteria C. Student will demonstrate knowledge of humanities by using vocabulary correctly as shown by scores at the 9-10 performance level.

SMART goals… Your own SMART goals…how SMART? I will provide daily samples and methods for students in MYP Level 4/5 (Language B) to interpret visual content so that they become proficient (6-8) in assessing information, understanding the samples, and connecting them with their personal experience by the end of the year. By the end of first trimester all students in IBDP Spanish will be able to produce correctly all required text types and will achieve the highest level (4) by writing appropriate, recognizable, and convincing texts.

SMART goals… Your own SMART goals… I will provide daily samples and methods for students in MYP Level 4/5 (Language B) to interpret visual content so that they become proficient (6-8) in assessing information, understanding the samples, and connecting them with their personal experience by the end of the year. By the end of trimester 1, all year 10s have their Inquiry & Analysis turned in, assessed with my feedback, with time enough for students to improve and resubmit work (as appropriate) to achieve a level 5-6 or higher (max 8). Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of concepts, strategies, techniques and rules related to a variety of physical activities, and apply them in various contexts. They will also be able to use their knowledge to analyze situations and solve problems.

SMART goals… Your own SMART goals… Have students achieving a content score of 5-6 in written task and a 7-8 in further oral activity by the end of the trimester. To do this, give the students a short reading/writing in class each week to improve Criterion A. By the end of the school year all seniors will improve their skills in using excel, autograph, GSP, Google docs, Geogebra and the apps on the TI- 84+ graphic calculator such that the scores on the IB DP Paper 2 Exam will improve by at least 1 point in comparison with the ones obtained in the last year's exam.

SMART goals… Your own SMART goals… By the end of the school year, I want my students in language A to improve by at least 1 point on their language skills (criteria C) and meet the minimum language requirements as defined at the beginning of the school year for each level.. By the end of the second trimester I would like my grade 12 students in Math Studies to have a better understanding and feed back of Writing Mathematics in their Internal Assessment Project and score at least one level higher.

SMART goals… Your own SMART goals… All students will be able to articulate or demonstrate correct form in grip, rotation and weight transfer of a golf swing, as laid out in criteria B, by the end of our golf unit. By the end of the year, Econ student IA scores will be 1 point higher, on average, for the Evaluation part of the assessment. By the end of December all grade 12 students will have one sample lab report that meets all of the 3 criteria, and they will have achieved at least a 4/6 on each of the three criteria.

SMART goals… Your own SMART goals… I would like to create cohesive lesson plans for the units that can be measured for success(?) each trimester and concluded by the end of the year. This will be achieved through reflection after each lesson on the lesson plan and discussed with the 3 department faculty, as well as constructive feedback from students concerning the unit/ lessons each trimester. By the end of semester one to resource and develop a teaching space of equivalent quality to the already equipped design studio. By the end of the second trimester, all my MYP students will improve their science inquiry and data processing skills by achieving at least a 4 on Criteria D and E.
