1 Aim: How has a new way of thinking, based on experimentation and observation changed the way Europeans looked at the world? Do Now: What scientific tools are used today for observation and/or communication?

2 Vocabulary Heliocentric – the earth revolves around the sun Geocentric – the universe revolves around the earth Scientific Method – collect information, form hypothesis, experiment, record and analyze data, state a conclusion, repeat steps.

4 Nicolaus Copernicus Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance astronomer and the first person to formulate a comprehensive heliocentric cosmology which displaced the Earth from the center of the universe.

5 Galileo Galilei An Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution.

6 Sir Isaac Newton Was English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist and theologian, who has been "considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived. Discovery of gravity.

7 Question of the day! If the church made all rules for living, had all the power, and said that the world was geocentric…(the universe revolves around the earth)…. What do you think happened to the ideas of Copernicus and Galileo???? 1. They were accepted happily by all. 2. They were rejected by the Pope (the head of the church). 3. People of Europe began to rethink the churches rules and looked at the scientific way of thinking for the first time.
