3 Course Outline Description ENGL113 is a speaking and presentation course comprising:  Video-based and general discussions  Individual and group oral presentation  Panel discussion  Debate  Book reviews and response to readings

4  Presenting research findings  Evaluation of speeches on T.V.  story telling among other activities.

5 Objectives By the end of this course, students are expected to: 1.Expand repertoire of communication in ways that develop their speaking and professional presentation skills. 2.Demonstrate understanding of a topic and explain it to an audience.

6 3. Practise delivery and presentation skills. 4.Apply group dynamics effectively through group speaking and presentation activities. 5.Demonstrate ability to analyze and respond to various readings.

7 6. Demonstrate ability to analyze and respond to various speeches delivered on T.V. 7. Present research findings efficiently. 8. Engage in effective discussion.

8 Evaluation and Grading Policy In-class activities: 20% Video-based Discussions, individual and group oral presentation, debate, book reviews and response to readings, presenting research findings, evaluation of speeches on T.V., story telling, among other activities.

9 Midterm Exam: 30%. (PowerPoint-based) The midterm consists of two parts: 1. Paper-based Test 2. An oral individual 4-point presentation. The presentation will focus on an issue of importance, and it should reflect neat preparation, organization, and clarity of ideas.

10 Final Exam: 50% (PowerPoint-based) The final consists of an oral group 4- point presentation. The presentation will focus on the findings of research carried out by students. Teacher’s approval of the topic to be researched is essential.
