Prayer before Worship Today we honor you as our King with joyful exuberance. But in reality, you are going forth to suffer the pangs of death for us. What wondrous love you have in becoming subject to the cross. It should not happen, but we are grateful it did because through you alone, we find forgiveness, peace, and heaven. To you we give all praise. Amen.

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, April 12th

Hosanna, Loud Hosanna CW #130 Verses 1-3 Text: Jeannette Threlfall, 1821-80 Setting: ELLACOMBE Tune: M. V. Werkmeister, Gesang-Buch der Herzogl, Hofkapelle, Württemberg, 1784, alt.

Verse 1: Hosanna, loud hosanna, The little children sang; Through pillared court and temple The lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them, Close folded to his breast, The children sang their praises, The simplest and the best.

Verse 2: From Olivet they followed Mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving And chanting clear and loud. The Lord of saints and angels Rode on in lowly state Nor scorned that little children Should on his bidding wait.

Verse 3: "Hosanna in the highest!" That ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, The Lord of heav'n, our King. Oh, may we ever praise him With heart and life and voice And in his royal presence Eternally rejoice.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen.

Confession and Absolution Pastor: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. All: For the times we have not welcomed you or your Word—and the times we have resisted it— Lord, have mercy on us.

Confession and Absolution All: When our mouths have not given true Hosannas, but have been muted and silent—Christ have mercy on us.

Confession and Absolution All: For all the moments we have been selfish and unwilling to spread our goods before you, unlike the people who placed their cloaks before you when you entered Jerusalem— Lord have mercy on us.

Confession and Absolution Pastor: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Confession of Sin All: God’s Word is truth. We are forgiven by his blood, and we are members of his kingdom through baptism. God knows us by name and loves us. Hosanna in the highest!

Lord, Have Mercy Pastor: In peace, let us pray to the Lord. For the well-being of all people everywhere, that they may receive from you all they need to sustain body and life, hear our prayer, O Lord. All: Lord, have mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy Pastor: For the spread of your life- giving gospel throughout the world, that all who are lost in sin may be brought to faith in you, hear our prayer, O Christ. All: Christ, have mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy Pastor: For patience and perseverance in this life, that we may not lose the hope of heaven as we await your return, hear our prayer, O Lord. All: Lord, have mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy Pastor: Lord of life, live in us that we may live for you. All: Amen.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

God’s Word to His People Zechariah 9:9-10 See, your King comes to you

God’s Word to His People Philippians 2:5-11 Jesus humbled himself, yet is exalted as Lord of all

Verse of the Day Pastor: The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. (John 12:23)

God’s Word to His People Matthew 21:1-11

Gospel Pastor: This is the gospel of the Lord. All: Praise be to you, O Christ.

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed All: I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed All: He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed All: All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true.

Ride On, Ride On In Majesty CW #133 Verses 1-5 Text: Henry H. Milman, 1791-1868 Setting: WINCHESTER NEW Tune: Musicalisch Hand-Buch der Geistlichen Melodien, Hamburg, 1690, alt.

Verse 1: Ride on, ride on in majesty! Hark! All the tribes hosanna cry. O Savior meek, pursue your road, With palms and scattered garments strowed.

Verse 2: Ride on, ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die. O Christ, your triumphs now begin O'er captive death and conquered sin.

Verse 3: Ride on, ride on in majesty! The angel armies of the sky Look down with sad and wond'ring eyes To see th' approaching sacrifice.

Verse 4: Ride on, ride on in majesty! Your last and fiercest strife is nigh. The Father on his sapphire throne Awaits his own anointed Son.

Verse 5: Ride on, ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die. Bow your meek head to mortal pain, Then take, O Christ, your power and reign.

Hosanna to the Son of David!

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Prayer of the Church

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

The Sacrament Pastor: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up unto the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All: It is good and right so to do.

The Sacrament Pastor: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who willingly died under the curse of this world’s sin so that we may live forever in the light of God’s blessing. Therefore with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:

Holy, Holy, Holy (Sanctus) Verses 1: O Holy, holy, holy Lord God of pow’r and might, Your glory, earth and heaven In countless ways recite. Hosanna! Come and save us, Lord God of hosts on high, And in your grace and mercy Receive our fervent cry.

Holy, Holy, Holy (Sanctus) Verses 2: Hosanna in the highest! How truly blest is he Who in God’s name is coming To set his people free! He comes to bring salvation And with his blood outpoured, Deliver us from bondage— Hosanna, mighty Lord!

Prayer of Thanksgiving Pastor: Blessed are you, O Lord of heaven and earth. We praise and thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, and we remember the great acts of love through which he has ransomed us from sin, death, and the devil’s power. By his incarnation, he became one with us. By his perfect life, he fulfilled your holy will. By his innocent death, he overcame hell. By his rising from the grave, he opened heaven.

Prayer of Thanksgiving Pastor: Invited by your grace and instructed by your Word, we approach your table with repentant and joyful hearts. Strengthen us through Christ’s body and blood, and preserve us in the true faith until we feast with him and all his ransomed people in glory everlasting. All: Amen

Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Words of Institution Pastor: Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

The Sacrament Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: Amen.

Lamb of God (Agnus Dei) All: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us your peace. Amen.

Distribution of Holy Communion

Pastor: We give you thanks, O Lord, for the foretaste of the heavenly banquet that you have given us to eat and to drink in this sacrament. Through this gift you have fed our faith, nourished our hope, and strengthened our love. By your Spirit help us to live as your holy people until that day when you will receive us as your guests at the wedding supper of the Lamb, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. All: Amen Prayer

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. All: Amen
