18 Setting for nominated property

19 Protection 99.97% of property is contained within Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve (IUCN category 1B) Protected under the Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act and Fossil Ecological Reserve Regulations and management plan 0.03% of property is protected as a Crown Land Reserve under the Lands Act and also the Historic Resources Act and Palaeontological Resource Regulations. (IUCN category IV) 10

21 Integrity All the key fossils and strata are contained in the nominated property. Only a few fossils were removed prior to reserve –Archived in recognized museums No threats from past habitation Buffer is suitable to absorb coastal impacts. 10

22 Management and Presentation The nominated property is the responsibility of Parks and Natural Areas Division which manages all ecological reserves in the province. There is an office at the Edge of Avalon Interpretive Centre in Portugal Cove South with a Reserve Manager, Geologist, and interpretive staff. Reserve interpreters lead a daily guided tour daily from May to October. Other management support is provided by Parks and Natural Areas headquarters staff (Corner Brook). 10
