7 Ideal timeline for most students: Sophomore Year: Open HSAEC File Sophomore and Junior Year: Solicit letters of recommendation Junior Year: Complete HSAEC file Junior Year: Interview for HSAEC evaluation Junior Year: Take MCAT, preferably in April, May, or June Summer after Junior Year: apply (AMCAS, AACOMAS) We suggest application submitted no later than June 30 Request Committee Letter when sending econdary applications, or after submitting AMCAS letter service request

8 REQUIREMENTS FOR EVALUATION BY HSAEC 3 Science Letters of Recommendation 2 Non-Science Letters of Recommendation Letters from Volunteer Service (50 hours required) Academic Transcripts (Non UD) Resume Personal Statement Photograph

9 Required Courses to be admitted to medical school: 2 semesters of Biology with lab 2 semesters of Inorganic Chemistry with lab 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry with lab 2 semesters of Physics with lab 2 semesters of English, with composition or writing Possible math requirement, variable. Some schools have none. Recommended to also take 1 semester of Introductory Sociology; 1 semester of Introductory Psychology; Biochemistry; Molecular Biology; Statistics Note: Some medical schools may require these courses. CHECK INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS ON THEIR SITES ONLINE.

Support statements in your Personal Statement Knowledge of Current Events Understanding of the medical school admissions process “Talk About Yourself” Why should a medical school accept you over everybody else? Most important life event What books do you read not course-related? How do you get your news? Future of medicine Favorite/least favorite courses. Why? SERIOUSLY anything!! Your interview wants to get to know YOU, so that they can advocate for YOU!

13 Possible Evaluation Results Highest Recommendation Recommended With Enthusiasm Recommended Not Recommended (no committee letter) All aspects are considered except MCAT scores. Interviewer comments are very important. Science gpa and overall gpa considered. Volunteer service considered.. Leadership!! Service orientation Research (not required but considered) Entire committee can look at the file. Entire committee votes, majority rules.
