1 KINDERGARTEN INVENTORY OF SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT GUIDE 2009-2010 Below is a twelve week schedule of all items found on the Kindergarten Inventory of Skills and Development. All skills are cumulative and are to be tested every twelve weeks. This schedule includes expectations of students for each twelve week period. TO BE PROMOTED TO FIRST GRADE STUDENTS MUST MASTER 80% OF THE SKILLS IN READING, MATH, AND WRITING. Scroll down to view skills for each Marking Period

2 FIRST TWELVE WEEKS Reading Identifies upper and lowercase letters (at least 7) Identifies initial sounds (at least 7) Identifies basic story elements (character, setting) Math Sorts objects and shapes Identifies colors (8 colors) Identifies shapes (4 basic shapes) Uses positional vocabulary Counts objects 0-10 Identifies numerals 0-10 Writing Demonstrates fine motor skills Draws pictures to tell a story / uses letter strings Listening and Speaking Listens to a story / discusses and responds appropriately Expresses feelings, needs, and ideas in complete sentences

3 SECOND TWELVE WEEKS Reading Identifies uppercase and lowercase letters ( 19 letters) Identifies initial sounds (18 letters) Comprehends and interprets what has been read -Retells a story -Sequences events (5 pictures) -Makes predictions and explains why Recognizes important words in stories Creates rhyming words / phonemically aware Math Recognizes, creates, and extends patterns Organizes and interprets graphs Uses ordinal numbers 1st to 10th Identifies numerals 0-20 Counts objects 0-20 Writing Writes his/her first name correctly Writes for a specific purpose Uses letter strings Uses inventive spelling Uses classroom resources for writing Listening and Speaking Recites short poems, rhymes, and songs

4 THIRD TWELVE WEEKS Reading Identifies uppercase and lowercase letters (entire alphabet) Identifies initial sounds (entire alphabet except x) Demonstrates book concepts Reads books with predictable, repetitive text Recognizes important words in stories Math Uses Measurement, Comparison, and Capacity Identifies numbers before, after, and between using a number line Models and acts out story problems Identifies coins and values (penny, nickel, dime) Writing Writes his/her last name correctly Uses standard spelling Creates simple texts Prints uppercase and lowercase letters Uses technology to produce class work Listening and Speaking Creates and tells a story in logical sequence
