2 About Embedded Systems : There used to be days when you ask an electronic engineer about preferred domain, he would either mention becoming a RF engineer where he would design radar for air force, all board designs for defense or VLSI engineer to design all ASCI applications in big companies like Intel, TI etc. Those were the days when everyone could say this particular application belongs VLSI or other application belongs to RF background. But that kind of system no more exists now. If you visit any good VLSI research companies you can find people from across the disciplines like chemistry, physics, devices, circuits design, system design, board design, signal integrity, computer science, DSP, programing, IT, Biology, optics what’s not. This approach equally applies to defense system. Any design in future would include almost every discipline. This is the birth of the embeddedsystem.

3 Let’s take an example. A car, which includes AC system whose design, needs the knowledge of the mechanical system, aerodynamics, microcontroller to control the system. All speedometers need knowledge of the programming. Injection system needs programing and mechanical system knowledge. Even steering is no more a just mechanical system, power steering design needs many discipline knowledge. One of the mistake that recent student make is they stick to one domain. Like if you are a programmer learn C++, chemist learns chemical equation, mathematician mug up formulas. But one needs to be adoptable to different knowledge to design complete system and become successful as engineer at their work place.

4 Applications : House hold systems: Washing machine, mixer, TV, setup box etc. Medical system: MRI system, health care system. Automotive system: AC system, fuel injection control, various display at steering, power steering. Militarysytsem: Radar system, submarines design. Consumer electronics: Aide for disabled person. Commercial: Recent Google invention to deliver the products in air. These are only few applications in embedded system ocean. So any area you step in your life, you will see an embedded system. One needs to catch the right area and improve their skills to exploit the market demand. Why wait, let us get started what is knows a promising field “Embedded system”.
