3 ©SHRM 2011 3 SHRM College Relations and YP Update State College Relations Director Opportunities: Maintain contact with chapter college relations chairs by phone, email or face-to-face a minimum of two times per year. Facilitate conference calls between chapter college relations chairs to discuss college relations programs and share successful practices. Ensure local chapters all have college relations chairs. Provide opportunities for students to attend state conferences or state leadership conferences to enhance their degree learning and networking opportunities. 2011 CLA Opportunities

4 ©SHRM 2011 4 SHRM College Relations and YP Update Revised Chapter Affiliation Requirements: As of January 1, 2011, in order to maintain active status, a student chapter must: > Hold a student chapter charter. > Have a chapter advisor who is a current SHRM member. > Elect chapter officers annually. > Submit the Student Chapter Information Form no later than September 30 each year. > Have a minimum of eight student members in the chapter as of November 30 each year. Beginning April 1, 2011, student chapters must also submit section 1 of the Student Chapter Merit Award. > This will coincide with the 2011-2012 merit cycle, which will be due March 31, 2012. 5 ©SHRM 2011 5 SHRM College Relations and YP Update Revised Chapter Affiliation Requirements: SHRM will be notifying each student chapter advisor of the changes, which will require chapters to: > Submit a new chapter charter Groups that affiliated prior to August 2009 do not have charters > Submit updated bylaws which reflect the current best practices in chapters, and align with SHRM organization bylaws Chapters will be provide the forms and sample bylaws, they will need to review and provide signature approval Chapters that do not comply will be subject to disaffiliation > SHRM may terminate the affiliation of a student chapter for failure to submit annual chapter information reports for two or more years in succession, failure to meet SHRM student membership requirements, or conduct prejudicial to the interests and objectives of the Society. The new requirements will phase out inactive status, thus emphasizing the importance for long-term consistency and succession planning within the student chapter.
