4 Wreath Laying Ceremony Optional Essay… Students are encouraged but not required to submit and essay (“What would make you a good candidate to represent OCE in the wreath laying ceremony? Describe in detail with specific examples how you SAIL at OCE and the community.”) Four students will be chosen by a panel for EACH TRIP Tracks 1,2,4 essays due 8/14/15 Track 3 essays due 8/28/15

5 Needs to Know… NO Technology devices allowed for students on the trip for purposes other than: – to use as a camera or – to call parents in case of emergency. – Devices are not to be used to play games, listen to music, read books, etc. Students need to pack a lunch for the first day of the trip. We will stop to eat lunch at a rest stop before arriving in DC. – They need to keep the lunch with them on the bus. – We will not have access to items stored under the bus until we reach the hotel.

6 Needs to Know… Each student needs to pack a bag to keep with him/her on the bus. This bag needs to include: – bottled water (1 for each day), – snacks for two days, – books, travel games, – a raincoat/poncho, – and lunch for Thursday. – Depending on the weather… a sweatshirt or coat is also recommended.

7 Needs to Know… Wear comfortable shoes. (Don’t go out and buy new right before the trip.) Wear DC shirt on Thursday and OCE 5 th grade shirt on Friday. Students are encouraged to dress in layers. (We will give updates on the weather as we get closer to the dates.) Pillows are allowed for the bus ride. Disposable cameras are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

8 Medical Information Guidelines are changing for out of state trips. As soon as we receive the information from WCPSS we will provide parents the information and guidelines for medicine for out of state trips.

10 The online payment option can be accessed off of the OCE webpage.

11 Next Steps… Your child’s teacher will email a list of the parents selected as chaperones. Once announced chaperones will need to submit their payments by the last payment due date for your track. (You can send them in earlier.) Your child’s teacher will create rooming and touring groups. These will be emailed out as well. Please note that we TRY to accommodate all requests.

12 Next Steps… WCPSS Permission Slips, Needs to Know, and Chaperone Information Sheets will be sent out closer to the trip date. T-shirts have been ordered and will be in within the next few weeks. We will send those home with students once they arrive. Start talking to your children about what they will see in Washington DC. Check out websites. GET EXCITED!!!
