3 Anthurium  Red and shades of red are most common  Less common are cultivars in white, green, purple and multi-colored  Availability: Year-round  Vase Life: 10 - 45 days, depending on cultivar  Anthurium is Greek for "tailflower”

4 Bird of Paradise  Tropical flower  Orange-blue flowers  Availability: Year-round  Vase Life: 7 to 14 days

5 Calla lily  White, ivory, pink, yellow, green, purple, black, shades of red  Availability: Year-round, peak supplies December through July  Vase Life: 4 to 8 days.  Requires lots of water  Sap of the calla will stain clothing

6 Orchid  Several varieties of orchids – Cymbidium, Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, Butterfly  Come in a wide variety of colors  White, yellow, pink, purple, lavender are the most common  Availability: October through June  Vase Life: 17 to 21 days

7 Lily  Several varieties of lilies – Asiatic, Stargazer, Easter, Tiger  White, cream, reds, pinks, yellows, and bi- colors, some with characteristic markings  Availability: Year-round, peak supplies by season  Vase Life: 7 to 14 days per stem, 4 to 7 days per bloom  In Europe, lilies were used as a remedy against diseases and ailments
