14. Second battle of Fort Fisher— Jan.13-15.1865 At 2:30pm the naval assault stopped and the land attack began. General Whiting of the Confederate’s was killed during this attack, and the combat was fierce. Around ten pm the surrender order was given to the confederates. General Terry moved his troops in between Hoke’s troops and Fort Fisher and moved towards the Fort. Hoke did not engage or do anything. For two days, porter ships attacked the fort with lots of artillery.
