2 Fencing Fencing is the martial art of fighting with blades. The common version of fencing today, also called olympic fencing is divided into three weapon categories: foil, sabre and épée. Classical fencing uses the same weapons, but approaches fencing as a martial art. Competitive fencing is one of five activities which have been featured in every one of the modern Olympic Games.

3 Relay race During a relay race, members of a team take turns running, orienteering, swimming, cross- country skiing, biathlon, or ice skating (usually with a baton in the fist) parts of a circuit or performing a certain action. Relay races take the form of professional races and amateur games. In the Olympic games, there are several types of relay races that are part of track and field.

4 Curling’s Laws of Physics The most intriguing question related to the physics of curling is, why does a curling stone curve (curl) on the ice? Interestingly, curling is the only sport where the trajectory of the projectile can be influenced after release. Players "sweep" the ice directly in front of the curling stone to decrease the friction of the stone with the ice. This in turn affects the degree of curl of the stone as it slides down the length of the rink, towards the target area.

5 Georgios Averof The restoration of the Panathenian Stadium for the 1896 Summer Olympics was done at the request of Crown Prince Constantine. The stadium was refurbished in 1895, its second refurbishment in the 19th century, using white marble from Mount Penteli pursuant to Averoff's request. The cost was initially estimated at 585,000 drachmas but eventually reached 920,000. He also served as a member of the reception committee for the foreign competitors at the Games.
