2  The Ottawa lived in wigwams. Wigwams are made of wooden frames, which are covered with woven mats and sheets of birch bark.

3 The Ottawa lives on the west coast of the Lower Peninsula. The Ottawa also lives in parts of Illinois and Canada.

4  What did they eat? Crops of corn, beans and squash. They made bread and soups. The berries that they ate were native to Michigan. They ate blueberries black berries and strawberries. They also had rice and beans.  How did they get their food? They were farming people. Ottawa hunters and warriors used bows and arrows, clubs and hide shields. They killed deer. Ottawa fisher men used bone fishhooks and sinew lines. They got lots of fish. They made food with birch bark, pots and pans.

5 WWhat were the jobs of men? The men hunted. Sometimes they went to war to protect their families and made Ottawa and made wooden tools. WWhat were the jobs of women? They were farmers. They took care of the children and did chores.

6 WWhat did children do? Children help their fathers hunt. They play lacrosse and play with dolls and toys. They made them by hand.

7  The Ottawa traded food with Ojibwa and Potowatomi. Their special skill is hunting and fishing. They made lacrosse sticks and balls.

8  Men’s clothing. They wore cloaks and went naked. They wore shoes called moccasins. Just like the women. There cloaks were made from buck skin. WWomen’s clothing. They wore long dresses with detachable sleeves and robes. They wore shoes called moccasins just like the men. They were made of rabbit skin and feathers.

9  They were the middle brother in the three fires. The three fires are called the Anishinabeg. The word Ottawa means trade and the Ottawa was good at trading. How did they clean them self? They heated up stones and poured water on it.
