7 Year 1 CORE MODULES: Foundations Shakespeare and the History of Ideas Reinventions Critical Theory

8 Year 2: Breadth and Depth Four modules: two before 1800 and two after 1800 Modules from the Renaissance to the present day Provides the knowledge you need for final year independent research Single Honours students only (Combined Honours students may select modules as options)

9 Level 3: Total Optionality & Research Sample Option Modules: Witchcraft, Magic, & Gender in Literature Sex, Scandal, and Sensation in Victorian Literature Literary Decadence Children’s Literature The Gothic Tolkien: Scholar, Critic, Writer Dissertation CHOOSE YOUR OWN TOPIC Individual supervision Bursaries for research travel expenses The culmination of the degree

11 Teaching methods: Lectures (30-85 students) Seminars (10-16 students) Study Groups (6 students) Tutorials (1-to-1 support) Gradual move away from exams to written work – 50/50 in First Year to 100% Written Work in Final Year We are committed to offering 10 contact hours a week in Year 1
