1 Mike Sharpe, ETSI VP ESP (ETSI Standardization Projects)
Document No: GSC-16-PLEN-76 Source: ETSI Contact: Mike Sharpe Sources: Soeren Hess (TC ITS Chair), Martin Arndt (ETSI Secretariat) GSC Session: PLENARY Agenda Item: 6.6 ITS activities in ETSI Mike Sharpe, ETSI VP ESP (ETSI Standardization Projects)

2 ITS Stakeholders Infra OEMs structure Road authorities C2C-CC Europe
Road operators ASECAP – CEDR C2C-CC Europe CAMP USA OEMs Japan Infra structure Suppliers Standards Operators Regulators OEMs Global suppliers Participating in Standardisation Ecuropean Commission INFSO – MOVE - ENTR ITS Directive US DOT – NHTSA MLIT Major stakeholders for standardisaiton towards deployment. Cooperation between stakeholders are taking place and they are participating in the activities of ETSI TC ITS. ETSI TC ITS CEN TC 278 ISO TC 204 / ITU IEEE/SAE National standards -ANSI Public operators and service providers

3 Standards – 1st release ETSI TC ITS
Application and Facility CAM/DENM V2V Safety Local Dynamic Maps Data Dictionary Position and time Network – transport GeoNetworking Requirements Architecture Scenarios Media independent Media dependent 5 GHz Basic transport protocol IPv6 Access Media ITS G5 IEEE profile PHY/MAC congestion control Mitigation 5.8/5.9 GHz Channel configuration Management Communication architecture Identity Management Communication management Congestion Management Service announcemen t Security Security Architecture TVRA IEEE mapping Access control Confidential Plausibility validation Based on communication architecture ETSI TC ITS has finalised a number of standards based on the Mandate M/453 and expect to finalise iomportant standards on CAM/DENM and vehicl safety messages next week. Strong cooperation with the standardisation in USA to allign the approach

4 Standards towards deployment
2012 First release of ENs ETSI TC ITS Quality check and conformance test Interoperability tests ETSI CTI 2013 Validation at Large scale FOTs Standards freeze for deployment The approach towards deployment with Quality – conformance and interoperability tests of ETSI standards. The first interoperability test the ETSI standards mid November in Hallmon, Netherlands managed by ETSI CTI and ETSI TC ITS in close cooperaiton with ERTICO.

5 EU – US – JP harmonisation
High level declaration European Commission – US.DOT - MLIT Harmonised Safety applications Harmonised sustainability applications Harmonisation of standards for ITS Assessment Tools HMI and driver distraction Global cooperation with strong political pressure form European Commission , US.DOT and the Japanese MLIT. Goal to achieve Common hardware and security approach as well as major message sets and message elements. IEEE / SAE ETSI TC ITS CEN/ISO Common Hardware – harmonised security approach and message sets

6 Standards for deployment
For initial deployment with non complex systems Standards for more Complex systems Standards maintenance New access technology Customer benefit and competitiveness 3rd release 2nd release 1st release mid 2012 First release of ETSI ITS standards in 2012 for initial deployment of ITS in Europe together with OEMs and infrastructure stakeholders. Research Standards FOTs

7 Demonstration in Vienna
Demonstration of ETSI G5 technology C2C-CC and Austrian infrastructure ETSI standards will be used in demonstration at the ITS world congress in Vienna October 2012. Strong consortium with ASFINAG – Kapsch and others. Support from the Euroepan Commission and US.DOT

8 Standardisation opportunities
Adopt a set of standards based on a common communication architecture – To be finish in 2012 Coordinate activities with international and national standards organisations – strong liaison activities Achieve common hardware for ITS deployment via standards – typical media and security standards Ensure global approach for standards - but: not too much and too late.... The way forward for ITS standardisaiton. We need to focus on day one system in order to achieve deployment within the next years. But as mentioned not too much and too late. An announcement of the next ETSI TC ITS workshop – taking place in Daho Quatar. (link to ETSI web site on the workshop). Last year 150 participants including high level commision participation. 4th ETSI TC ITS workshop 7 – 9 February 2012 Doha Qatar
