Why do you think this document was created? What specific evidence in the document helps you know why it was created? 2. What does the document convey about life in France at the time it was created? 3. What questions does the document raise? End

3 Purpose Question #1 Why do you think this document was created? What specific evidence in the document helps you know why it was created? In the first line, the document says “The National Assembly, considering that it has been called to establish the constitution of the realm [country], to bring about the regeneration [rebirth] of public order and to maintain the true principles of monarchy….” -The National Assembly wanted to create a new political system to govern France. In the second paragraph, first line, the document says that the National Assembly “take a solemn oath never to separate [stick together] until the constitution of the realm is established.” -The National Assembly is promising to stick together until they have created a new constitution for France.

4 Purpose Question #2 What does the document convey [say] about life in France at the time it was created? The document conveys that this was a time of rapid change. There were a lot of people who wanted to take matters into their own hands to bring about change.

5 Purpose Question #3 What questions does the document raise? The document raises a lot of questions 1. How did the king respond? 2. Why did members of the 1 st and 2 nd estate join the 3 rd estate? 3. What kinds of laws did the National Assembly create?
