Movie Reflection: “Robinson Crusoe” Morgan Watson 3/23/10

Introduction Setting: 19 th Century London – the beginning of the movie takes place in London. Scotland- Robinson lives in Scotland. Island – the majority of the movie takes place on an island.

Plot A journalist name Robinson Crusoe go on a voyage to clear his mind. However, he gets into a storm and gets shipwrecked. He meets a tribesman named Friday on an island. Eventually he and his friend fight a local tribe. When Robinson is taken to Friday’s home, and is rescued. Robinson document his experiences throughout the movie.

Characters: Robinson – a journalist from Scotland and the main character of the movie. Friday – a local tribesman that is rescued by Robinson. Also, a main character. Mary – Robinson’s fiancé Skipper – the captain’s dog that Robinson befriends.

My Thoughts My favorite character is Friday because he gives new life to Robinson. He gives Robinson a new outlook on life. The major conflict of the movie is a man vs. self type of conflict. Robinson goes through a lot of internal conflict. For example, his religion is put to the test, his culture is put to the test, and his feelings towards something different changes. At the end of the movie, he has been given new life.

My favorite scene is when Friday and Robinson fight the savage tribe because it featured a lot of weapons and traps. The theme of the movie is unity. People have to stay united despite the difference in culture, color, and religion.

Conclusion I recommend this movie because of the message it presents. Also, it tests your character and philosophy. I learned about friendship and respect for other cultures.
